Black Claw was founded by career tattooer Grime, who has almost 30 years of experience working as an innovator in tattooing.

We use what we create, which is why we lead the industry in quality standards.

As we develop new products, we focus on how we can make tattooing safer, easier, and more efficient. From our unprecedented quality control during production to our continuously stringent lab testing, Black Claw aims to set a new standard in our trade.

Constant Innovation

When creating and quality testing new products, Grime architects each design to ensure the highest quality materials are employed. Every product then goes through multiple phases of design and material testing, with Grime personally using the product in multiple extended sessions to ensure Black Claw supplies can stand up to heavy demands. This new product process creates rigorous quality control for each and every product made by Black Claw.

Unrivaled quality

Black Claw needles are made from surgical grade 316L Stainless Steel. A lesser steel, such as the commonly used and cheaper 304 stainless, will lose its point during a tattoo, particularly during longer sessions. Or worse, it can wear against the tube surface, essentially creating a blade and lending itself to cutting and scarring the skin as its effectiveness to deliver pigment disappears. Our bars are made of thicker steel with a noticeable difference in feel to ensure a rigid and reliable connection between artist and client. With greater quality of composition, tattooers can achieve less scarring and faster healing.

Composition & comparison

Black Claw employs six stages of inspection throughout the manufacturing process of our tattoo supplies, including high definition digital microscope analysis. We regularly lab test to ensure lead-free product and surgical grade 316L stainless steel. Our needles are analyzed by an ISO/IEC accredited laboratory employing ICP-AES (Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectroscopy) and Combustion instrumentation to ensure the highest standards.

Black Claw was also the first in the industry to pioneer a 100% biodegradable bio-plastic to replace the standard plastic cartridge. More than a year of testing materials combinations and strength requirements led to this industry-altering product, created through the meticulous focus on creating a bio-plastic that could stand up to Black Claw’s quality standards.

As a career professional tattooer, Grime knows what works, what doesn’t and why. He understands what makes a great tattoo needle or product, and that the setup procedure is a crucial part of the tattooing process. Based on this, we developed tattooer-friendly packaging and grouping markings that eliminate guesswork and offer easily identifiable tags for swapping out needles or grabbing a new box from storage. We continually strive to develop tattoo tools and supplies that meet and exceed the esteem of our respected peers.
